Newborn’s Are Just As Much Fun Awake As Asleep!
Newborns that won’t sleep during your session. In fact, it can be fun to photograph them while they are wide awake! We all love those lovely sleepy newborn poses. And to see them curled up like they were in the womb. A baby that is awake can be as much fun to work with as a sleeping baby.
I do find that when working with newborns who won’t sleep can be a little bit of a challenge. An awake newborn needs to get swaddled up! This will keep those tiny hands still and allow you to photograph them with ease. When babies are awake it is so much fun. To be able to capture wide eyes and expressions. Who doesn’t love to see newborn expressions? Let me tell you, they have great ones. As I am editing a baby who is wide awake and alert I always wonder what they are thinking. They are so much fun and I find myself putting memes to them in my head.
A baby who is awake should always be a happy baby. Make sure you feed them and their little tummies are full. This way they will usually be content and happy. I swaddle them tight and get to work! I do prefer to shoot with my macro lens for these close-ups. You definitely need to be careful with keeping them in focus. Making sure that their eyes are in focus.
And as always they will usually fall asleep! So you get the best of both worlds. You will get the mixture of a wide-awake baby and then a sleepy curled up newborn. Sometimes we get lucky and are able to capture them in poses wide awake and quite happy to watch you work. So when you have a baby who does not want to sleep, it is fine! Go with the flow, swaddle them up, and capture how alert they are! Parents always love to see their babies beautiful eyes wide open.
