Is newborn photography worth it?

As a Holly Springs newborn photographer and mother, I am often asked by expecting parents “Is newborn photography worth it”?  The simple answer is yes!! Absolutely! If you hired a photographer for your wedding or maternity shoot, it is more than worth it to go ahead and plan to have some professional newborn photos taken. Remember that your newborn is only a teeny tiny baby for several weeks. Just as you invested in other photography sessions, hiring a newborn photographer is definitely worth it!

When you first give birth and look down at your newborn baby, the emotions fly sky-high. You see them and know that love at first sight is a real thing. Right away you will know the importance of having your sweet baby photographed!! This is a memory you definitely want to keep forever, and a newborn shoot will ensure just that. As much as we can use our cell phones to take pictures of our family and children, newborns are a whole new ball game. A professional newborn photographer will know exactly the right angles to shoot. They will have the right props and most likely everything you could need for your newborn shoot. This alone makes newborn photography worth it.

The photographer specializing in newborn photography should have different lenses for different images of your baby! I personally have 3 lenses I will use for a newborn photoshoot. When I am taking pictures of just baby and baby in props I use a 35 mm 1.4 lens. This lens is the one I use the most. It allows for great bokeh (soft backgrounds) and great sharpness. For all those up close “macro” shots I use a 100mm macro lens. This is to capture the fine detail shots, eyelashes, nose, lips, fingers, and toes! This lens is made to show off the tiniest of details and I love it! When I am doing the family photography with your newborn, I use the 28-70 2.8mm lens. This allows me to get up close and show you exactly why newborn photography is worth it!

As a mother of 3 children myself, I couldn’t imagine not having those precious memories of just how small they once were. When I look back through my own images, I relive the joy of when they were so small. I am so grateful to have those photographs to hand down from generation to generation to cherish. So, you ask “Is newborn photography worth it”? Absolutely, 100% Newborn photography is worth every penny!
