Coronavirus And Being Safe As A Photographer

Coronavirus and being safe as a Raleigh Photographer. As a photographer who specializes in newborns and maternity pictures. I wanted to take a moment to make a quick post! I wanted to let my clients know what precautions I am taking to make sure myself and those coming to my studio are protected.

Today is March 23rd, 2020. I made several calls today to see if I needed to close the doors to my studio. I was told no. I do not have large crowds in my studio. I am not a “walk-in” studio. I take appointments only. I had a phone call from a potential client which prompted me to make this post.

I was asked “Are you still taking clients and what precautions are you taking with this new virus” My answer was simple. I am taking the exact same precautions as I do with every session. To prevent any virus or bug. I am, as I always have, cleaning my studio after each shoot and also before each shoot. Everything gets washed down. I repeatedly use hand sanitizer. This is no different than any other time I do a shoot. In fact every morning before any shoot (even six months ago) I take my temperature. I like to be sure nothing is lurking that I am unaware of. I shower, put on clean clothes and walk into a clean studio. I use hand sanitizer and make sure every measure is taken for everyone’s safety.

At the moment we are not being told to close down, and families are wanting pictures of their newborns, just like families wanted them six months ago. I would never put a newborn in harm’s way. Yes, people may say “but you are by staying open”. NO.. by staying open I am offering a SAFE way to photograph your newborn. Because if I don’t do these images they may go to someone else who doesn’t take the same safety measures as I do. I pride myself on keeping my studio a safe place to be with your family and newborn.

It is important that families know that I want what is best for them, what is safest for them. As of right now, people are still out and about. Still shopping and still going places. We are not on lockdown. When I am told I legally have to close because of this coronavirus, I will do so. I want to still be able to give people the joy of professional newborn images. This may be their first / only or last newborn. Maybe they have gone through extreme measures to have a baby. And of course, they want images and it is their choice.

Should I or any of my boys get sick of any kind I will close. And that is sick with any virus, be it the flu, colds, tummy bug or coronavirus. We have to be smart. We have to make the right choices for ourselves. Most of my clients these past 2 weeks work in the medical field.

As I said above and will say again. If I don’t offer them then someone else will. And I know with me they are safe and I am taking every precaution. I can’t say that about every photographer. I have friends who are closing and friends who are staying open. I believe until enforced it is our own choice. It is also our responsibility to provide safe environments for these shoots. I am thankful to those who trust me, those who know my work ethic and those who support me. I am taking this new coronavirus very seriously.

Of course, every client has their own choice to stay home. I am not forcing anyone to come out for a shoot. I am just providing a safe place for a shoot to take place. I hope with all my heart that this coronavirus does not destroy most photography businesses. We can still do our jobs and do them safely.

If you would like to book a session with me for your newborn, child or family please contact me to get on my schedule.
